No Blogs Lately. Sorry. We've been traveling the world..... I wish. Dakota is sick with something. Nobody seems to know what the answer is. It all started a few weeks ago with a high, persistant fever, and then came the rash, the bloodshot eyes, irritability, annorexia. Due to his unexplainable symptoms, we spent nearly a week at Primary Childrens with at least 3 blood draws a day (for various tests). Ask me about toddlers and needles (theres a lot of stories in this category). At one point, the doctors were looking at a rare disease called Kawasaki's disease. His symptoms weren't exact, so we didn't end up treating for that. We are over a week out of the hospital, still having fevers. His hands and feet are peeling now, and I'm sure (this may sound wierd) I'm sure he has Kawasaki's disease. When the doctors decided that they weren't going to treat Dakota for Kawasaki's, I was sooo upset. I really really felt like we should start the treatment even though not all of his symptoms matched Kawasaki's Disease. Well, the team (of doctors) decided not to treat because the treatment is kind of risky, and if they weren't positive, they didn't want to put him at risk. So there is a window of ten days where this treatment would have been 95% effective in preventing heart complications that are associated with Kawasaki's. It's been longer than 10 days, and the fever is recurring--and like I said his hands and feet are peeling. His skin coloring is nearly grey, and he acts like all of his bones and joints hurt (like he is an old person with arthritis). What a life for a little man! I have to get a hold of his doctors tomorrow to see if the treatment could still be effective at all or what needs to happen. Life sucks sometimes. Thanks to all the family and friends for the support! We'll keep you updated.
